For my journey I used the Lonely Planets South America on a Shoestring book. I found
this travel book alright, but not brilliant. It left you in need of more information regarding what a place was like, where to stay etc.
But this is where travelling partners books come in handy !
The most useful book I came across was South American Handbook.
The Footprints book provides a very good accommodation, food and attractions book.
